    Corolla Fuel Efficiency

My car is equipped with an automatic transmission and when the car is going downhill for any length of time, I shift the transmission into Neutral, coast and then sit back and watch the onboard fuel economy gauge go zooming past 70 mpg! When the coast is done, I gently shift the transmission...

    Headlight Lens Question

I've had excellent results with the Mother's Plastic Polish. I apply it to the headlight lens with a cloth, let it sit for about 10-15 minutes until it has dried and has a hazy appearance to it, then I buff it out with a polishing cloth. For headlight lenses that aren't very scratched up, the...

    2002 Corolla Engine Rebuild

If the auto center that did the oil change on the car left it 3 quarts low, it seems to me they are the ones that need to have the engine rebuilt, not you. I take it a petroleum oil was used? With any engine rebuild, the engine block should be taken to a machine shop to see if the cylinders...

2000 Corolla - What Mileage is Average?

National U.S. average is 12,000 miles per year. 12 years X 12,000 miles = 144,000 miles, so you're 73,000 miles higher mileage than average. You seem to do an awful lot of driving.

How Often Do You Change Your Oil?

It would run like clockwork if the oil was changed every 2,000 miles, or 1,000 miles, or every 500 miles, but it wouldn't be necessary and a waste of money. The 3,000 mile drain pain is from the 1960's and it's now 50 years later. There's no need to waste money and natural resources changing oil...

    Engine Running Rich

Sometimes it's best to let a sleeping dog lay. If there's noting wrong with the carburetor then there's no benefit in rebuilding it. A modern carburetor can be very complex and not easy to rebuild properly and you could actually end up with reduced performance, fuel economy and power. A rich...

    Issues in Rain

For a car to hydroplane, (skid in the rain), this is always due to tires that have very little tread left, poor performing tires, excessive speed, or a combination of any of these three. What brand and model of tire did you purchase?

    2004 - Problem

Do you live in the U.S.? If so, you can get your Corolla's computer scanned for free to try and diagnose the problem. An engine running rough indicates a misfiring condition and this will show with a scan.

    Engine Running Rich

Why rebuild the carburetor? What's wrong with it? A rich running condition can be determined by the appearance of the spark plug tips, (dark in color and smells like gas), and also the tailpipe, which will look dark and sooty on the inside, from black exhaust.
