How Long Has Anyone Run a Timing Belt ?

Rough running etc., doesn't have anything to do with a failed timing belt. Timing belts are made of rubber and when they eventually snap, the engine will come to a stop. If the car is being driven on the highway, or in some situation where engine power is needed, an accident can result. With...

    Toyota Recalls 7.4 Million Cars

I speak from personal experience. I have a beautiful 1999 Cadillac Eldorado, but the Cadillac Northstar engine in it is a piece of junk! With these engines, the cylinder bead bolts slowly start to pull out of the block, which reduces the clamping force on the cylinder head gaskets and they...

    Feeling Used?

When I try to help people with solid advice based on almost 30 years of experience in the automotive repair/maintenance and synthetic oil industry and I take my time to type up a response that will help them, then they don't even respond letting you know your suggestion(s) worked or helped, you...

    2006 Corolla LE Issues

Call the Dealer. Don't bother with Motor Trend. By the way, you mentioned something about excessive corrosion on the underside of the car and with only 62,000 miles, that probably shouldn't be like that. This could indicate a flood car and the high repairs/maintenance costs would then also...

    2006 Corolla LE Issues

If I recall correctly, the catalyctic convertor will be covered under warranty by Toyota. I seem to recall catalyctic convertors have to be covered under warranty for 100,000 miles. If your auto center is recommending replacing the catalyctic converter when it's still under warranty from...

    Comtemplating 2013 "S" Purchase

To the original poster; you made this post, (your one and only post), way back on January 9, 2013, 48 days ago and you've had six people be kind enough to take their time to respond to your question. However, you seem to have just totally vanished. What gives?

    Corolla Fuel Efficiency

Whoa, that's illegal and the punishment is $4,500, 30 days in jail, or both. It can also reduce fuel economy and performance, not to mention poison the air we all need to breathe.

    A/C Light Question

Yes, when the defrost is turned on, the AC is on, it's just not blowing cold air. When you have the floor heat on, the defrost is off, so the AC is also off. If the AC compressor were never run during the winter months, it would not be circulating lubricating oil throughout the compressor and...

    Improve Fuel Economy - Tips

Okay everyone, since the Corolla is an economy car and one of the main reasons why motorists purchase this car, let's use this thread to share fuel economy tips. With the administration in Washington driving gas prices to $5 per gallon and more, getting better fuel economy will save us all...

    Feeling Used?

Over and over again I have noticed people coming to this forum to sign up, ask just one question regarding a problem they are having with their car and then, "poof", they are gone never to be heard from again, usually without so much as a thank you for the information/advice. This really leaves...

    A/C Light Question

    True that!

    A/C Light Question

Yes, when the defrost is used, the AC compressor is cycling on. If you pull the AC fuse, not allowing the lubricating oil to circulate through the AC compressor, the compressor will eventually fail. To replace the compressor, recharge the AC system, etc., will be approaching $1,000 if not more.

    A/C Light Question

When the defrost in a car is turned on, it cycles the AC unit on to circulate lubricating oil through the AC compressor so it doesn't rust and seize. Otherwise, during the winter the AC compressor is much more likely to develop rust and corrosion from disuse, causing it to fail.

    2003 Trunk

Look at the trunk latching mechanism and you'll find what looks like a, "C", laying on its side, with the open part of the, "C", facing a rod that it latches to when the trunk lid is closed. If the, "C", is not open, that means it's in its closed position and will not latch because the it can't...

How To Replace Automatic Transmission Filter & Flush Video

Nice contribution. Thank you! I gave your video a thumbs up. :) Tip; whenever you are working with automotive fluids, oil or in this case transmission fluid, it's a good idea to keep that stuff off of your skin as it can cause cancer. You can get a box of 30 neoprene rubber gloves from...
