Never, ever replace parts unless they have been diagnosed as being bad. Otherwise you end up with a lot of money wasted and perfectly good parts replaced, while the original problem still persists.

Advance Auto Parts or Autozone will test the starter, alternator and battery for you for free so you can pinpoint the problem.

The only way to be sure how the engine oil is being consumed is with a compression test. Be very wary of purchasing a neglected car with a potentially worn out engine. There's scads of Corolla's around to choose from.
